aliSSon gothz inspiring face art

In my humble opinion, the dressing up “game”- yes, I guess it is a game nowadays – has become so saturated with so many talented people in the main stream channels that, at the moment,  I must admit very rarely I am intrigued by creative looks. However, my mood changed when the Paulista multimedia artist Alisson Gothz who is based now in San Francisco, has unleashed a series of homages to great pieces of art, using his face as a canvas. Alisson started his stylish journey in the early 90’s in Sao Paulo as a goth, and by the middle of the same decade the Club Kid scene had exploded in that giant city, when Gothz felt more drawn to his first love “Boy George”, and his main idol David Bowie, resulting in a self need to explore drag and also his sexuality as a gay man.

Alisson Gothz spends about 3 to 4 hours working/painting his face to achieve the exquisite final look; besides make-up, it embraces a deep understanding of proportion and styling also. From Keith Haring & Basquiat to Frida Kahlo, or from Brazilian painter Tarsila do Amaral to Gustav Klimt … nothing and nobody is out of reach for Gothz.

In San Francisco, Alisson is also known as Sister Tilda Next Time, a member of The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, the very famous organization/charity that uses religious imagery and drag to call attention to sexual intolerance and satirizes issues of gender and morality.

we got married and it was beautiful !!

I got married to Cleucio Vieira last Saturday in Rio de Janeiro, in front of our mothers Marlene Araujo & Ereny Santos, and Marcelo Santos, Cleucio’s brother who flew in from Milan, and a small group of friends. The best thing about it? Cleucio is the best, an amazing kind man with the most beautiful heart and mind. The best thing about the wedding day? Well, with no doubt, it was a celebration of love, and to feel free like that, one must not be afraid to live and celebrate love. The theme of the lunch was “Garden of Love” where we practice the art of giving love. But also, we wanted to do things we love, with the people we love….we love our mothers, we love Saturdays, Feijoada, caipirinha, Veuve Rose and we invited people who knew of our crescendo story. Cleucio and I know each other for fifteen years, it was a love “in construction” as he used to say.

The day couldn’t help to have an art appeal which started when the Angel parfum scented flower invitations, individually painted by artist Scooter LaForge, were sent out to the guests. At the table, which had the formation of a big family, our friends received custom sized boxes as the wedding gifts, with an image of us created by artist Chris Fontenelle, my childhood friend from Piaui. The decoupage work on the box was made by my mother Marlene Araujo, before Chris signed each one. The original painting was at display at one end of the table. Twins Andrea e Adriana Cruz helped our guests to find their seats !

The wedding cake was a replica of the entrance of the “Dama de Ferro” club, where we met in Ipanema, back in 2002. The cake topper was made by the Brazilian born and New York based artist Fernando Carpaneda, a lovely sculpture of two men resembling us, inside an acrylic heart, with a sign above it that shaped our theme “Love Conquers All”.

Our celebrant was Celso Maciel aka Lorna Washington, the very iconic artist and gay activist, who is a dear friend of us for so many years !!

We wore unique shirts designed by Alex Mallet, pants and shoes by Osklen.

Cleucio and I would like to thank all the guests who came from Rio, Sao Paulo, Goias, Sao Luis, Teresina, Milan,  New York e Los Angeles. We are so touched by your actions. We would like to also thank some who couldn’t come by, but somehow still managed to be present that day….

All photos by our friends…we love you.

Obrigado !!

artist Scooter LaForge with his friend/muse, the photographer Johnny Rozsa

After great collaborations with companies like Neutrogena, Patricia Field , CA-RIO-CA WEAR, V-FilesAdidas and Walter Van Beirendonck, it wasn’t such a big surprise to me when New York based artist Scooter LaForge  was invited to work with a world recognized brand name such as DIOR.
Scooter was hired to PAINT neon poison flowers on over 20 mirrors at the international launch of DIOR Poison Girl in New York City at the Poison Club, the party was hosted by Camille Rowe and it was definitely an event filled with glamorous chaos; from Bela Hadid to Keke Palmer, gorgeous ladies were all over the space drinking Veuve and posing at all the photos booths spread all over. Even I did the Dior way!

new york men’s day 2017

WOOD HOUSE

Bristol

The New York Fashion Week / Men started at Dune Studios with what they call New York Men’s Day where twelve designers showcased their collections at a two part day presentation, indeed a men’s day. The event presented by Agentry Pr opens up for the official men fashion week line up, I believe this is its third edition.

Overall the mood was political and of course the use of camouflage fabrics was very present. My interest was very much concentrated on Bristol, a Los Angeles brand , with its dusty palette and light refinement concepts. Back to the basics in a sharp and solid silhouette was the brand Uri Minkoff with his urban designers for the modern man.

Yes, my darlings. After almost 5 years of great work and self discovery during this project and of course since November 2014, when it had the world release in Sao Paulo; the documentary Gazelle The Love Issue by director/producer Cesar Terranova is now available for rent and purchase. So it can be yours forever….
I am so happy to have being invited by Cesar for this project…and soon I will upload a post about what I had to endure through and what I learned about me and others during that journey.
