aliSSon gothz inspiring face art

In my humble opinion, the dressing up “game”- yes, I guess it is a game nowadays – has become so saturated with so many talented people in the main stream channels that, at the moment,  I must admit very rarely I am intrigued by creative looks. However, my mood changed when the Paulista multimedia artist Alisson Gothz who is based now in San Francisco, has unleashed a series of homages to great pieces of art, using his face as a canvas. Alisson started his stylish journey in the early 90’s in Sao Paulo as a goth, and by the middle of the same decade the Club Kid scene had exploded in that giant city, when Gothz felt more drawn to his first love “Boy George”, and his main idol David Bowie, resulting in a self need to explore drag and also his sexuality as a gay man.

Alisson Gothz spends about 3 to 4 hours working/painting his face to achieve the exquisite final look; besides make-up, it embraces a deep understanding of proportion and styling also. From Keith Haring & Basquiat to Frida Kahlo, or from Brazilian painter Tarsila do Amaral to Gustav Klimt … nothing and nobody is out of reach for Gothz.

In San Francisco, Alisson is also known as Sister Tilda Next Time, a member of The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, the very famous organization/charity that uses religious imagery and drag to call attention to sexual intolerance and satirizes issues of gender and morality.

we got married and it was beautiful !!

I got married to Cleucio Vieira last Saturday in Rio de Janeiro, in front of our mothers Marlene Araujo & Ereny Santos, and Marcelo Santos, Cleucio’s brother who flew in from Milan, and a small group of friends. The best thing about it? Cleucio is the best, an amazing kind man with the most beautiful heart and mind. The best thing about the wedding day? Well, with no doubt, it was a celebration of love, and to feel free like that, one must not be afraid to live and celebrate love. The theme of the lunch was “Garden of Love” where we practice the art of giving love. But also, we wanted to do things we love, with the people we love….we love our mothers, we love Saturdays, Feijoada, caipirinha, Veuve Rose and we invited people who knew of our crescendo story. Cleucio and I know each other for fifteen years, it was a love “in construction” as he used to say.

The day couldn’t help to have an art appeal which started when the Angel parfum scented flower invitations, individually painted by artist Scooter LaForge, were sent out to the guests. At the table, which had the formation of a big family, our friends received custom sized boxes as the wedding gifts, with an image of us created by artist Chris Fontenelle, my childhood friend from Piaui. The decoupage work on the box was made by my mother Marlene Araujo, before Chris signed each one. The original painting was at display at one end of the table. Twins Andrea e Adriana Cruz helped our guests to find their seats !

The wedding cake was a replica of the entrance of the “Dama de Ferro” club, where we met in Ipanema, back in 2002. The cake topper was made by the Brazilian born and New York based artist Fernando Carpaneda, a lovely sculpture of two men resembling us, inside an acrylic heart, with a sign above it that shaped our theme “Love Conquers All”.

Our celebrant was Celso Maciel aka Lorna Washington, the very iconic artist and gay activist, who is a dear friend of us for so many years !!

We wore unique shirts designed by Alex Mallet, pants and shoes by Osklen.

Cleucio and I would like to thank all the guests who came from Rio, Sao Paulo, Goias, Sao Luis, Teresina, Milan,  New York e Los Angeles. We are so touched by your actions. We would like to also thank some who couldn’t come by, but somehow still managed to be present that day….

All photos by our friends…we love you.

Obrigado !!

in Rio today with my Bum Bum Cream

Believe me, as the good Brazilian that I am, when it comes to skin care products I am extremely picky when selecting the right ones for my body and face. At the moment I am obsessed, yes obsessed, with the Sol de Janeiro‘s beauty line that ranges from foot care, hydrators to hair lighteners; but my favorite Sol de Janeiro product so far is the Brazilian Bum Bum Cream, a cream very rich in guaraná, an Amazon plant, cupuaçu butter, açaí and coconut oil…together, these fab four do indeed help the circulation and in my case, gives me a luxurious look to that body part so admired in Brazil, and elsewhere :D. Also, this Bum Bum cream smells so good, you want it on all the time.
I got introduced to the Sol de Janeiro brand this year, when this company sponsored the Carioca Sunga Co fashion show, which I styled it, during Swim Fashion Week in Miami, and after I tried it, it was love at first touch. Although Sol de Janeiro ships everywhere, it is good to know I can just walk to Bigelow, in New York, to get their products.

the musical fountains show at the chateaux de versaiLLes

I have already been to the ” Chateaux de Versailles ” many years ago, but I didn’t have the time to go to the outside back area of the Palace, in the garden area…as a matter of fact, I remembered glancing through the windows, and really never thinking much about it. Boy, I was so wrong !!

So, this week while back in Paris, I decided to go and witness ” The Musical Fountains Show ” (Les Grandes Eaux) at the grand French-style formal gardens and park of Versailles designed by André Le Nôtre. You can only witness this show on Saturdays and Sundays, some Tuesdays and some extra holiday dates, and on the weekends the fountains are activated from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm and from 3:30 to 5:00 pm, and if I am not mistaken not all are on at the same time. The most glorious one is the Neptune Fountain, you can only see it in full force from 5:20 to 5:30 pm;  it is so amazing it deserves a FreakChic post of its own . Even if you can’t see all the fountains, there are so much to explore since there are a lot of temporary art installations also available , it is indeed a feast for the eye (see photos below).

I do really advise you that when in Paris, do take the 40 mins train ride to Versailles and visually indulge yourself…I have to go back so that I can also explore the Palaces of Trianon and Marie-Antoinette’s estate…so much to see…oh Mon Dieu !

Can you see me and Madonna around so much beauty?

Besides her gorgeous name and image, what I like about Elaine Lancaster is that she is all about the glamour and class…even if she would go crazy on you, she does it with panache, don’t tell me you haven’t watched Elaine in ” The Real Housewives of Miami ” Well, she is a busy personality, and busy people don’t stop ever…I just came across her cosmetic site, where the Elaine Lancaster Lip Lacquer is available for purchase, so glam, so Elaine Lancaster…all I can say is…go Elaine…you not only make us all look good…you do it the right away !!

mao padilha’s birthday in paris…oui, oui…

Bathroom of the Crystal Room Restaurant ( Baccarat Museum )

This week I managed to find energy and time to stop in Paris for three days. I have been to the “City of Light” millions of times, but this was a special occasion, something that it was marked in my calendar for two months already, and I knew it was going to be so much fun. So, there was no way I was going to miss it.

The occasion was Mao Padilha’s birthday who decided to escape from New York for ten days in Paris and London; following him was the lovely NY columnist and hostess Darian Darling.

If the NY movie ” Paris is Burning ” didn’t really affect that city… don’t worry !! We finished the job !! Mao and Darian got there two days earlier, so by the time I arrived, they were on a New York speed state of mind…meaning that we were about to cover every corner of that city, nothing stopped us, not even the silly rain !!

Do I need to say that Darian Darling wore Louboutins from morning to really late hours in the next morning? Never missed a beat, never complained of pain…and that was just in Paris. That’s impressive on my über book of style resistance. Darian is amazing, she looked absolutely perfect every day, showing an amazing style and effortless fierceness !! When she walked into the grand Crystal Room Restaurant wearing gloves, some women gave her the look of death. They were jealous !!!

Givenchy, YSL, Cafe Francis, Crazy Horse, Moulin Rouge, Kokon To Zai, Pompidour Center, Louvre, Montmartre, Cafe de Flore, Crystal Room Restaurant, Laduree (every day), Cafe du Trocadero…I mean…and these are only some of the places I can remember from the top of my head. Mao wanted to kill us of French beauty overload.

It doesn’t matter how late we got back to the hotel, to our separate rooms in different floors…the next morning we were up and ready for breakfast, and to start the day with no delays. Mao was a perfect chic host, and kept us laughing and happy all the time. I felt privileged to have been invited to be with them in Paris. I even met Jill, who is Mao’s best friend living in Paris. She was with us at Mao’s birthday dinner at the Crystal Room Restaurant in the Baccarat Museum building, and she took us to really cool places in Paris, a “simple” American girl living a lovely life in Paris. Oui, oui…

Thank you Mao, Darian and Jill !!

outside my bedroom window

Pilar Katz is my wonderful neighbor, she has a gorgeous cat named Carmella Gypsy Rose! Sometimes I wish I knew what her cat is thinking since Carmella spends a lot of time outside one of my window’s bedroom  watching me in my desk where I am always working on my computer, I also use the same desk to do my make up when I need to go out. She stays there and watch my transformation. I love her big eyes. Once in a while when I leave my window open, she politely comes in and visits a little, then storms away as quick as you can say hi. So cute !
