fashion-week-bafo

New York Fashion Week is finally over; this time around I didn’t commit to go to a lot of  shows. It so much easier to follow everything online, but nothing compares to the great energy of a fashion show. Also, all the great vibe you can feel during the fashion week is quite contagious. I did take a lot of photos and these are my favorite ones….

arne svenson and his neighbors

What would you do if one day you walked in a gallery and you saw yourself on a wall displayed as an art work ? Well, that’s pretty much the story of the people who are the neighbors of artist photographer Arne Svenson.

” The Neighbors ” is indeed a brilliant show that captures life as life is…gorgeous compositions featuring the lives of Arne’s neighbors; the photographs have a painting feeling, and you can’t see the faces of the subjects…this series made me wonder what other moments he might have captured but chose not to show…perhaps that is what his neighbors also thought…some are so infuriated over privacy laws…and law suits are flying left and right…
I saw the exhibit at the Julie Saul Gallery in Chelsea and loved every single piece !

vogue goes chEEsy huRRicane sandy

photograph by Annie Leibovitz

Although most people will find it offensive….what bothers me about the Vogue’s ‘Hurricane Sandy’ is that it looks cheesy….it’s like a bad ad on a dirty subway train…they could have taken a different direction….maybe to ” art ” ? Just saying…not Vogue at all !!!!!! What is this below? Charlie’s Angels meet Sandy’s Secret? At least Nana Gouveia is guilty for being tacky…

remember fashion and aids in athens

If you want to find a fashion local store in Athens, that has a little bit of everything, a little bit more and a little bit less, then you should go to ” Remember Fashion ” on 79 Adrianou Street Plaka. I don’t know how to describe it exactly, but it did reminded of the old Patricia Field store on East 8th St. It was opened during the Punk era in 1978 by the two brothers Dimitris Tsouanatos and George Vanakos.

I met Dimitris, he is an artist ,very eccentric and also a very shy man. There are a lot of clothing pieces painted by him in the store, some are ok…and some are really cool. I do like the shirt I am holding below in the photo. Keep in mind that if you want to bring something local from Athens that is not touristy or high end…this is the place to go !

On the left of the entrance door, there is an unkept but very beautiful art installation with sculptures made by Dimitris, in honor of those who died of AIDS. It is really a beauty piece, and it was quite a lovely surprise to see that in Athens.

No people, it is not what you are thinking; we are both very happy in long term relationships! But, the story behind this image is actually very funny. My long time friend Alexsander Freitas whom I know for over 15 years from Rio de Janeiro, now he lives in Los Angeles and he has become a very famous porn star. Alexsander came to New York to be a quest of honor for the Mickey Boardman party on Eastern Bloc (July20th)

I always take photos of Alexsander when he comes to New York…just for the fun of it. This time around we did a shoot in the Liberty Corner King Room at The Standard Hotel. I spent the whole afternoon shooting him, we finished around 11pm, we opened a bottle of Veuve to celebrate…then we went to club.

We had planned that the next day before check out, that we were going to do a shoot of me dressed up as Gazelle….well that was the plan before a bottle of Veuve Cliquot, 6 long island iced teas, maybe three or four shots that he drunk. When we came back to the hotel…Alexsander was so passed out that clearly he was not going to be up at 7 to shoot me….so the only thing left for me to do was to do it myself…so I did. I couldn’t pass the chance to have a photo inspired by the sex scene of the movie “Shame” filmed in the same hotel.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have the time to dress up…so the new concept was more like the morning solitude of a mature mysterious man( a cross dresser maybe?) watching the sun arrive while the young stranger man sleeps alone uncovered in the bed…after a “long night” ! The truth is that the young man was passed out (lol), and he was sleeping until almost before check out time.

I showed the photos to him later of course, and he still can’t believe that I did it alone….I had 10 seconds to jump around the bed and to stay put for the shot…and I did it over and over again for almost 30 minutes for each position.   Alexander has a tattoo on his neck, it says ” Trust No Bitch “….I told him that his new next tattoo should say ” Trust no Gazelle ” …

gazeLLe’s new york state of mind

** Life Installation dressed in OLEK walking on Orchard Street

To be living in New York City means to belong to something quite unique, and it doesn’t matter if you stayed here for six weeks or sixty years. I have been privileged in my life to go to many different places in this world, from Jericoacoara to Sidi Abdel Rahman, and every place has its charm.
Visually speaking, the streets of our Big Apple are my favorite playground! This week I took these photos as I was going and coming back from places, because that’s what you do when you live here…and  “I don’t have any reasons, I’ve left them all behind…I’m in a New York state of mind.”

the burp eFFect images by gazeLLe are on tumblr

Photography has turned out to be one of my great passions, and I have no professional ambitions about it so far. It is like a language that gives me so much pleasure.
” The Burp Effect ” are a compilation of photographs of dirty dishes, mainly taken after the meal was eaten, for me they suggest a fulfillment imagined, a type of happiness that you have to envision on your own mind, you have to look and fantasize about what was there. The atmosphere depends of where my mood will take me that day.
This is not really an original idea, I have seen many photographs like these on the net, but these have my view on it !!

images for meoko vodka

I was asked last month to take some photographs for a new campaign of a new product in the market. You know, and I know that I am not a professional photographer, but I accepted the challenge, because I also would be helping friends who are working behind the brand. Me Oko is an all natural flavor infused-vodka company based in New York , and their new approach in changing the whole image of  Me Oko, with goals to bring more attention to the product and attract potential investors for sure let me thinking how important this task was. I had a good time photographing all six different flavor bottles(apple,  ginger, strawberry, watermelon, jalapeno and lemon & lime), and of course I had to try some, although I only love drinking champagne, I tried the ginger and the watermelon ones, very delicious…..my, my, my !!

The photo shown above is of course not the final version. You can check them on the link below and of course more about Me Oko, and no, I will not be taking commercial photography as a carrer anytime soon !
