and haPPy 2017 from the marvelous city of rio de janeiro

9pm: it was the first stop of the night, very casual and fun!

midnight; a very grand and small gathering to welcome 2017. Simply lovely

third stop of the night: at the Narciza’s apartment….no need to add more!! Fun and lots of hair movement

the triplex penthouse above Narciza’s place was surreal !!

Well, here I was again at the marvelous city of Rio de Janeiro, the town that has the best New Years Eve of the whole world! I was hoping that this year I was going to be a little calmer, since my 2016 New Years Eve was really busy, but after the Festa dos Herois Safados, you get in a mood so vibrant…it is almost impossible to resist the energy. So here we went again into the night full of parties and celebrations…
Please don’t take me wrong, I have spent many years celebrating the “reveillon”  in the sands of Copacabana and it was simply amazing…but the time now is different and I like to know and always experience new things…
From a very casual chic gathering to a grand and small reception where I welcomed the first minutes of 2017, and from the super selected and busy party at the Narciza Tamborindeguy ‘s place at the Chopin building we ended up at the triplex penthouse right above Nariciza’s apartment….really insane. The end of the night or shall I better say the beginning of the new year was with the sunrise at the Fasano, and yes I did my little dance in the pool ! Happy 2017 !!

arriving at Fasano at 5am to wait for the sunrise…it was a lovely night indeed !

traveLLing to paris with scOOter laforge

Last month my friend Scooter LaForge invited me to be his “plus one” guest on a three day trip to Paris. Of course my answer was yes. I love Paris, and to travel with Scooter is just a lot of fun. The main reason of the trip was to attend the fashion show of Belgian designer Walter Van Beirendonck; Scooter did another collaboration with Walter; this time for his S/S 2015 WhamBam collection. Scooter made me a special dress for the occasion and I must say his dress was a success everywhere we went.

Needless to say that we had a blast in Paris waiting for the day of Walter’s show which happened to be on our last day in Paris, and after the fabulous runway presentation, I hung out backstage with Scooter for a while, and we still had energy to go straight to the Mugler Follies dinner plus show. It was my second time watching it, and I would watch it a third time…just saying.
Thank you Scooter; I will be your “plus one” anytime … 😀

l’amour enfermé dans paris

I was in Paris this past weekend to attend a friend’s birthday celebration; I so love being in that enchanting city, everything is so beautiful and romantic. Well, I am sure that by now, you already know about the Pont des Arts bridge, where lovers began sealing their love by locking padlocks onto the chain link fence of this pedestrian passage that crosses the Seine River. Since, I was walking on by there, I couldn’t help taking some photos….ahhh l’amour….

the superb le baSSin de neptune in versaiLLes

After you indulged yourself with enough gorgeous fountains, parks, sculptures and everything else that you can expect in the gardens of a royal château, the ”  pièce de résistance ” of the Gardens of Versailles is in my opinion ” Le bassin de Neptune (Neptune’s fountain) ” , it is beyond grandiose.

If you are visiting the palace on a weekend in the summer, keep in mind that from 5:20pm to 5:30pm the fountain is turned on….but only for ten minutes…it is worth every minute of your time….breathtaking !!

the musical fountains show at the chateaux de versaiLLes

I have already been to the ” Chateaux de Versailles ” many years ago, but I didn’t have the time to go to the outside back area of the Palace, in the garden area…as a matter of fact, I remembered glancing through the windows, and really never thinking much about it. Boy, I was so wrong !!

So, this week while back in Paris, I decided to go and witness ” The Musical Fountains Show ” (Les Grandes Eaux) at the grand French-style formal gardens and park of Versailles designed by André Le Nôtre. You can only witness this show on Saturdays and Sundays, some Tuesdays and some extra holiday dates, and on the weekends the fountains are activated from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm and from 3:30 to 5:00 pm, and if I am not mistaken not all are on at the same time. The most glorious one is the Neptune Fountain, you can only see it in full force from 5:20 to 5:30 pm;  it is so amazing it deserves a FreakChic post of its own . Even if you can’t see all the fountains, there are so much to explore since there are a lot of temporary art installations also available , it is indeed a feast for the eye (see photos below).

I do really advise you that when in Paris, do take the 40 mins train ride to Versailles and visually indulge yourself…I have to go back so that I can also explore the Palaces of Trianon and Marie-Antoinette’s estate…so much to see…oh Mon Dieu !

Can you see me and Madonna around so much beauty?

*** Mykonos

Since I can remember learning about Greece I knew I was going to go there one day; for me to go anywhere in the world is just a matter of finding the time, and for at least 20 years I had fantasizing about going to that country; but I had made it personal the reasons and how I was going to go there…well it didn’t happen that way…and sometimes we can’t wait too long for things to come by how we wish !

This year I had told myself I was going to Greece one way or another; and it just so happened that my friend Richard Machado was celebrating his 40th birthday in Mykonos, so it was just meant to be. To be surrounded by long time friends, and meeting new and nice people made this trip very memorable. I met Maria Padoula in Athens, she is someone whom I only knew from Facebook, and she made our stay in Athens so pleasurable….and not only that…meeting her was just so wonderful, I guess I can say I have a new friend in Athens.

In Mykonos, our hosts Dennis Lamont and fashion photographer Richard Machado went above and beyond to make sure all his guests felt comfortable and pampered …we even had a private driver in Mykonos , but more than that, the chemistry I felt at the Okyroe villa where we stayed was so magnificent, Richard’s friends were wonderful…it made me not want to come back to reality…just like in the movie Shirley Valentine…in a dramatic romantic way…I felt like her…she stayed in Greece forever, I know I will go back again….I must !

kapari beach: the hiDDen treasure in mykonos

Feeling a little adventurous in Mykonos?? Well if you have easy means of transportation (lol) in the island, maybe you should consider going to the small Kapari beach…and I when I say small…I mean really small, but it is absolutely a stunning place to go and spend the afternoon. Our villa (Okyroe) was a located within a 10 min walking distance from it, so I kept going there many times…and people with maps would pass by me looking for it. There is no path way down the rocks…you have to be careful going down and up. Kapari beach is also a great place for
snorkeling. It is located at the end of the very short road called Agios Ioannis, after Sain John beach !

to mykonos from athens…go from the rafina port

I could have flown straight to Mykonos, but because I wanted to stop in Athens for a few days, I really didn’t want to go back to the airport since my life is spent in airplanes, so the other option was to go by ferry. As a suggestion from a friend, we took the express ferry in the Rafina port, we arrived in Mykonos after a 2h 15min smooth trip.
The good surprise was that coming back from Mykonos to Athens to catch our flight back to US, we found out that the airport is located between the city and the Rafina…so it was such an easy experience. Did I mention that there is also a trip from the port Piraeus that takes between 4h 30 min and 5h 15 min? It also depends on the type of ferry you get…trust me on this…go from Rafina !!

My first glimpse of Athens

I spent a great time of my life fantasizing about going to Greece. I have always being so intrigued by its history and people. Two days ago, I landed in Athens, one of the world’s oldest cities; it was such a good feeling to finally know I got here…it felt so good to accomplish this small dream. I felt like Shirley Valentine !! Do you know what else felt great and amazing? To eat a real Greek salad in Greece….just saying !
