festa dos herois safados

One hour before the “Festa dos Herois Safados” started, people were still asking me if I had access to Kevin Ridgely; everybody wanted to attend his famous party and that’s a clear indication that this was definitely the place to be if you wanted to correctly initiate your end of the year festivities in the marvelous city of Rio de Janeiro.
Kevin Ridgely is extremely accessible, specially if you are a regular of the posto 9, in Ipanema Beach. I already knew who he was, even before meting him, because some people call him “the mayor of Ipanema”; a lovely description of the American gentleman who spends part of the year in Rio; he speaks perfect Portuguese, he is kind, extremely observant and quite frankly, my opinion is that Kevin is beyond street smart for Rio standards, he  has learned all the tricks, the slangs and the Brazilian way ….but most of all, he loves Brazil and his parties are truly an indication of his joyful spirit.
“Safados”, which is a Brazilian word for naughty, is the main theme which every year has a description of its own…from  *Principes Safados to *Britanicos Safados, Kevin has, in a very organized way, combined fantasy and sense of humor which results is a really great time, with beautiful people, fun food and drinks, hot massages, amazing music, superb view and great souvenirs to remember a super cool night in a very safe area.
I woke up next day with my super hero safado….what a night !! I can’t wait for next year already…Safado is already a brand !!

Me and the fabulous host Kevin Ridgely; and of course me next morning with my super heroi safado 😀 !!

ver-o-peso is a must in belém

I was so happy to be back in Belém , a town where for many years I spent my school vacations. I was there to celebrate Christmas with my family and took some time off from the festivities to visit my favorite street market in Brasil: Ver-o-peso.
“Ver-o-peso” is located at the Guajara Bay riverside, the word means ‘check the weight’ going back to a colonial era tradition when the weight was measured before taxes could be paid.
Basically it is like any other market, the difference here is that there are things in Ver-o-peso that you truly only find there like fresh Brazilian nuts, amazing exotic fruits and of course, the very trendy açaí. The first time I ate açaí, I was maybe 10 years old. And do you know that açaí and fried fish is a perfect combination? Yes, it is indeed.

gazeLLe paulo’s 10 gift picks for 2016

It’s that special hour of the year again when I select my 10 gifts Christmas suggestions. It is always fun to do this list; this time around there are not gadgets or silly trends….I only selected things I am truly exposed to on my daily routine. Some of them are also products that I worked with, therefore I became so familiar that I ended up loving them so much:

I am so jaded with so much catchy silly songs …. it is always good to look back and fall in love all over one more time with the fab Israeli artist Dikla, who is back in my life to give me what I needed: beautiful voice giving amazing interpretations …her very well known version of Annie Lenox’s “Here Comes the Rain Again” is simply divine !!

A must have book by a truly genius  for those who love art, fashion, style and beautiful hats…however this is not simply just a book published by Rizzoli, this is an extraordinary look at the magnificent life of milliner Stephen Jones. Bravo indeed !!

Because she is Amanda Lepore and must I say more? (image by Josef Jasso)

The perfect dolls by artist Bridgette Bad are an invitation to a fantasy and very real world coming from her mind. This self taught sculptor from Ukraine who believes “art is an accident” never ceases to amazes me…

Definitely the coolest male item for the upcoming 2017 summer beach season. I am so in love with this sunga, featured in the CA-RIO-CA SUNGA GO S/S 17  show by designer Gil Even, and it is not only because I styled his fashion show, but because  this vintage look is hot hot hot….

Those who know me well, know that Angel by Thierry Mugler is the perfume I have been wearing for at least 20 years now…but I had to open space in my life for the Eau de Leonora fragrances…I simply couldn’t resist it, and apparently everybody else standing next to me also…so fantastic!

This beauty brand is the light that was missing in your life; and every new product they release is pure fun and perfection…and it smells insanely great !!

Fun, colorful and happy are definitely what comes to my mind when I think about these great bags.

rubem robierb 40th birthday party

The 40th birthday party of Brazilian artist Rubem Robierb, that took place in South Beach, was much more than simply get together to celebrate a dear friend. The event, full in details, started when guests received, at home, a large pop piece of art as the invitation, created and signed by Rubem. The beautiful party, discreetly orchestrated by an event planer, had a crescendo vibe where it started with a cocktail greeting, overlooking the bay that transitioned to a ” white pool party like” where samba and capoeira dancers took turns entertaining the attendees.
At the birthday cake hour, Sam Champion, who is Rubem’s partner, gave a short speech followed by Rubem who truly spoke from his heart when referring what his guests meant to him: ” if you are here, it is because at some point in my life our paths crossed and you mean something to me and I wanted to share this special moment with you….”
I flew in from New York just for his birthday and it truly felt special to be there, and I can honestly say that I’m sure that everyone else who was there felt the same also.

the launch of un:load

The launch of UN:LOAD, the premiere conscious contemporary collection by the fashion brand UN:DO was rather a busy event in the space Wallplay Chelsea.
UN:LOAD is a collection curated to bring awareness towards gun violence; it aims to reduce this type of violence though the lens of fashion by creating awareness and raising funds to save lives in communities across the US, with 20% of its profits going to the non profit organization Cure Violence.
The launch had several interesting art installations involving guns and bullets. I took a selfie standing on a bunch of bullets….check the quick video I did of the party vibe and also go the UN:DO Instagram page so you can be familiar with the new collection. Very cool.

stephen jones event at bOOkmarc nyc

Grace Coddington & Stephen Jones

Where water was replaced by Veuve Clicquot, Bookmarc was packed to capacity for the New York book launch of Stephen Jones Souvenirs and it was quite lovely. Stephen Jones, the magnificent English milliner who enchants the world with his creations seemed extremely happy last night when signing and making drawings on the book copies for his admirers from the Big Apple, a place he calls his second home.

“Souvenirs” is a remarkable documentation, published by Rizzoli, of a never ending career in fashion; penned by Susannah Frankel and with a beautiful and sincere foreword by Grace Coddington, who would like to claim that she discovered him. The book invites the reader into Jones’ life and career from the time of his mother pregnancy, his years at Saint Martin’s school of art, the Blitz Club era, glory in Paris and the world…..40 years of success of a 59 years of a continuing well lived life. This is with no question and no doubt a must have book; it will enrich your creative life and inspire you with its unlimited beauty.

I have always being a follower of his work, but last year I was a weekend guest of artist Scooter LaForge at the Festival Mode & Design in Montreal, where Stephen was also one of the lecturers; I had a opportunity to sit next to him during a lunch when I was able to really know a bit more of the person behind the iconic persona. Few months later, Stephen made my day when back in New York he attended an event put together in my honor…I will never forget when he discreetly was the last person to arrive. I knew he had a busy day, but he showed up. Yesterday, he wrote “Montreal forever” on my book copy. Amazing !!! Love you Jones.

elections 2016: victory lost … and the future ahead!!

party-mix in my house: the unopened party mix treats by Fishs Eddy – photo by me

It is over…the dream and aspirations of the 2016 elections is now behind us, at least according to the process. Donald Trump won fair and square, the people spoke, or better saying “the people who came out to vote spoke” and although the country is divided at this moment since emotions and fear are flying high, there is really nothing “effective” to do except to wait and expect that Mr. Trump “the President” would be different than Mr. Trump “the candidate”. I rather wait to see what he is going to do instead of reacting before….but that’s ME! More anger doesn’t solve anything, even though the rhetoric of this campaign was so vile…otherwise we are behaving just like “they” said they would if Trump lost. I am not being naive, I am just patient and practical….
As my candidate Hillary Clinton said on her concession speech, ” we must accept this result and look into the future, Donald Trump is going to be our President, we owe him an open mind and a chance to lead…”.  I love politics, I love democracy…and although this was an exhausting campaign, and I followed it since day one, I am so glad we can move on now … somehow, I guess … and I hope.

God Bless the United States of America.

trump or treat: i’m with her

  • my trick or treat basket of Donald goodies
  • me as Donald Trump wearing a pussy by artist Scooter LaForge;

It is finally coming to an end. The fierce battle for the US presidency between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton has left a country, and perhaps the world, exhausted and divided. Needless to say it was nasty, mean and surreal. Donald Trump lost me since day one; but when the explicit and horrible  Access Hollywood recordings came out in which he makes aggressive sexual comments about women, it was just simply enough. However, such disgust for him had actually inspired me to create a strong look for Halloween 2016.
“Gazelle Tramp – Lets Make America Tight Again” was indeed, and with no doubt, one of the scariest and bizarre concepts I have ever created. The idea that Donald Trump would be grabbing his own “pussy” was quite disarming to a lot of people who crossed paths with me when I was hosting the Halloween Ball by Susanne Bartsch at MoMA PS1 or walking up and down at the Halloween Parade in New York City.
Well, must I really say the look was a success…well, it is such a pity that theme behind was so controversial and sad…but that’s how I wanted to express how I feel about him.
So, please get out today and vote !!
I am with HER.

It was definitely a pleasure to style another CA-RIO-CA SUNGA CO fashion show this past week in Los Angeles. The fun Brazilian brand, created by Gil Even, brought to Style Fashion Week a very colorful and of course sexy collection. Mustache prints, happy faces, flags, solid colors, peace themes….it was all part of the CA-RIO-CA SUNGA CO SS17 which had 27 looks. With the exception of the first four “kafia” looks paired with swimsuits that carried this theme, the styling for this show was light with the mission to only complement the designs created by Gil which always embodies a good sense of humor while elevating the male body form. I used the new Havaianas Action sandals mixed with the more recognizable classic version of this label. Most of the 13 hand picked models wore the Spice Necklace sharp pieces by Johnathan Cardillo. Tahitians colorful “cangas” bought in the Moorea Island gave a flowy super hero cape movement to some looks, oversized Invicta watches added masculinity when matched to bags and arm band accessories from Gilson Martins. And for the over the top rich eccentric customer traveler, model Kyle Kriesel walked down the runway carrying a $27,000 bag by designer Farbod Barsum / Beverly Hills made for Universal Body  paired with the “Por Do Sol-sunset” CA-RIO-CA sunga. Sunglasses were few; Havaianas and two vintage retro round pieces from my personal archives, they perfect framed the faces and hair created by Samuel Rodriguez. The peaceful final walk had white flags created by Rogelio Perez.
