Me and Colby Keller, who is a special guest at the 22nd Festival Mix Brasil

The opening party for the 22nd Festival Mix Brasil took place this Thursday in Sao Paulo; it was so much fun being surrounded by a lot of interesting people who are also part of this festival – the biggest in Latin America. I attended the event in the company of my partner Mark Anthony – who flew from NY with me – and the director Cesar Terranova, who together with producer Gerard Joly is behind the documentary “Gazelle,The Love Issue“.

Few months ago I was invited by Brazilian designer Almir França to do a photoshoot in Central Park in New York. It was a great experience working with him. Almir has an enormous sense of community; his work also involves a great deal of LGBT issues, he is in charge of the Gay Pride Parade in Rio de Janeiro.
To conclude the Central Park project, he invited me to walk on his fashion show that took place in a market in one of Rio’s suburb. It was fun experience being surrounded by an audience who perhaps never really seeing a fashion show.
Almir França next community project will be fashion classes in one of the biggest school of samba in Rio: Portela

Central Park / May 2014

Last May, I was invited by Brazilian designer Almir França to be part of a photo shoot in Central Park. Almir – who lives in Rio de Janeiro – designed a collection inspired on the Ecologic Reserve Tinguá in Xerém (Duque de Caxias – RJ); his idea for the shoot was to combine the green from Tinguá with the green in Central Park with the message that people should understand how important the green is to the world, using fashion as a tool, Almir wants us to save the leaves.

“Save the Leaves” collection will be launched in August 2 in Rio de Janeiro with a show where 50 looks will be presented, the event will take place at CADEG – Municipal Market of Rio de Janeiro during the closing festivities of its Winter Festival, with support from the Department of Environment of the State of Rio de Janeiro.

The photos taken in Central Park will be in a catalog featuring the 2014 Almir França collection, with texts by Pierry Verger, Flavio Guilon and Fernando Terra; also including photographs by Roberta Brandão. The catalog has a fashion message that contributes to the construction of new identities. Honestly, I was very honored to have been invited by the designer to be included in his eco fashion project.

“Gazelle Blue Portrait” by Carpaneda

carpaneda super shirts

Brazilian born artist Fernando Carpaneda – who is based in New York – has made his art more accessible to those who are not able to acquire his coveted original pieces. Fernando has joined “SeeMe Tees” for the SeeMe Times Square Takeover; the art event (Art takes Times Square) in which he took part where participants had their work shown on specially erected digital billboards in the famous New York tourist attraction.
“SeeMe Tees” is a fun way to create your own shirt; Fernando made some of his paintings available (my portrait included :D) for the program. You can select from his paintings and move the art around to fit your taste better. The image can also be printed in the back of the shirt. For more info and to order shirts, just go to FernandoCarpaneda.See.Me
