As I was going through a mountain of mail in my desk ( I just arrived from a week trip in Rio) and surfing on social media at the same time, I came across a photo shared on Facebook from the Instagram profile of James Aguiar, the fashion director at Modern Luxury Media.
The photo was of Robert W Richards in an ad for Kate Spade in the 21st Annual Hollywood Issue of Vanity Fair. Robert couldn’t possibly look more glamorous in such glamorous magazine, and in such elegant company; fashionista icon Iris Apfel and Victoria’s Secret model Karlie Kloss are also part of this great Spring campaign, which of course is following the trend of featuring “older women” in ads which was started by Céline and Saint Laurent. Including the legendary New York downtown fashion illustrator Robert W Richards in this campaign, for sure adds another layer of eccentricity, needless to say chicness, to the trend.
Robert W Richards is a superb artist, he has done work for Valentino, Gaultier e Yves Saint Laurent are just few names of famous designers that he has worked for. His portraits are unique and sublime, Robert has drew portraits of Cher, Andy Warhol, Lena Horne, Tony Curtis among so many other Hollywood stars. I felt very honored when he created the poster for the documentary Gazelle, The Love Issue.
All I can say, is that we want more and more of Robert….and Iris also… 😀

private reception for STROKE
Leslie Lohman Museum
March 27th

Last night I attended the private press opening reception for the exhibit STROKE curated by artist and my dear friend Robert W Richards, at the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art in New York City.

         STROKE spotlights original 80 illustrations of  25 artists who made work for gay magazines from the 1950s to the 1990s; artists like Antonio (Antonio Lopez), George Stavrinos, Richard Rosenfeld, Tom of Finland and Kent among many others. It is indeed a celebration of gay art specially selected by the talented Robert W. Richards.

        This exhibition will be on view from TODAY till May 25th(2014). Please find more info about it on the link below:
